Property of the Week

Each week I select a property that I personally love, if you would like to see others I’ve reviewed check them out here:  Stylish Stays

I’m a history buff and love our American heritage, so the property I selected to review this week is a beautiful historic home in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Washington, D.C. You must take a look: Property #3014729.

What attracted me to this property:

The first thing that grabbed my attention was featured photo.  I have always wanted to stay in a row house in a big city. The headline also caught my attention because it mentions being walking distance to all of the monuments and museums on the National Mall, which is vital to me when I visit Washington, D.C. The property is very close to the metro so if I want to explore outside of the city, it’s just around the block. Finally, I love that the owners are trying to be green - we should all do our part to reduce our carbon foot print, even when traveling.

What I love about this listing:

The description is lovely. It provides just the right amount of information about the home and the surrounding area.  I appreciate the photo selection;  there are enough pictures of the interior and exterior of the home and of local amenities. I also love the owner’s response time: 100% within an hour. That is a seriously great traveler experience!

What could be improved:

The quality of some of the photos leaves a bit to be desired.  Higher resolution photos are a must.  There is one photo of the dining area and kitchen that was snapped at a very strange angle. Having to tilt your head to really view the picture is not ideal, though I applaud the effort of trying to do something different.

I love this townhome and I can’t wait until the next time I travel to Washington, D.C. so that I can book it for myself!

Property of the Week

In case you missed my other posts in our Property of the Week blog series, please take a moment and catch up.

This week’s property selection is inspired by my love of unique experiences. Take a look at this lovely one-bedroom apartment in the heart of St. Louis’ famous Soulard District: Property #375651vb

What attracted me to this property:

Two things intrigued me about this property. First and foremost, the location of this property is wonderful.  The Soulard District of St. Louis is all about some of my favorite things; history, food and good times with friends.  It’s also close to downtown so great proximity to the St. Louis Blues, the Cardinals, many museums and of course the famous Gateway Arch.

The second thing that charmed me is that the property is actually an apartment above a working store.  The wannabe city girl in me has always wanted to live above a shop in a downtown area.

What I love about this listing:

The description is short, but it highlights all the important things you need to know. The owner’s story is fantastic. I learned a lot about the building, the owner and the area just from reading that section of the listing. I really love some of the pictures on this listing. The pictures of the living area and the kitchen are well done. I also love that the owner included pics of the exterior and the historic park across the street. Lastly the reviews are just delightful!

What could be improved:

There are not enough photos and some are low quality.  The bathroom pictures are dark , and don’t show enough of the space.  The owner should consider reshooting or hiring a professional real estate photographer to take photos that better represent the home more effectively.  The only other area of concern to me is the owner’s response time.  It’s so important to me that I hear back ASAP. Waiting two days would make me wonder how responsive the owner would be during my stay, and if I could rely on the owner if something happened while I was staying.

Overall, I find this apartment lovely and I will seriously consider staying here the next time I travel to St. Louis. What’s your favorite part of this listing?

Property of the Week

In case you missed my other posts in our Property of the Week blog series, please take a moment and catch up.

This week’s property selection is inspired by my love of great design features.  Take a look at this lovely, renovated, studio apartment in Missoula, Montana: Property # 341660vb

What attracted me to this property:

The design features in this space are highly appealing. I have fallen in love with the 15-foot exposed brick exterior walls.  The modern kitchen and high end fixtures appeal to the chef within.  I can picture myself in this kitchen cooking a meal for my spouse and myself while enjoying the fantastic view of the river out the window. I appreciate the zero entry shower and heated tile floors in the bath. Finally, I love how the owners have made a small space visually stunning and functional all at the same time.

What I love about this listing:

The description on this listing is outstanding. The owners have done a fine job detailing everything there is to know about their apartment and the surrounding area. I appreciate how they’ve gone into detail about their vision and how they’ve made it happen. I absolutely love that they’ve utilized historic architectural pieces and given them new life in this studio apartment.

What could be improved:

The photos could use a professional’s touch. It would be well worth the money for the owners to utilize a professional photographer to capture the home with better lit photos.  Photo captions would help a traveler to understand what their seeing.  For example, are these the sunsets I’ll see out the windows of the apartment?  It would be great to have descriptions that represent the photos to get a full picture of the property experience.

Finally, I’d remove a couple of the non-related photos and add more images of the destination or property. The scary clown like person needs to find a home somewhere else. J

Property of the Week

In case you missed my intro to Property of the Week, please take a moment and read it for more details on this blog series.

This week’s property choice is inspired by my love of fall.  Gatlinburg, Tennessee is the perfect spot for a fall getaway.  This cabin is the best of all worlds because it’s secluded and has all the modern amenities you could possible want. Take a peek at this oasis in the woods: Property #629999vb

What attracted me to this property:

Location, location, location!  This property is perfectly situated so that it feels like you’re in the middle of nowhere, yet you’re a short drive from the town of Gatlinburg and everything it has to offer. I am in love with this cabin. The exterior is warm and inviting. I especially love the brightly colored trim and the rocking chairs on the front porch.  The interior of this home blows me away! The attention to detail in all of the rooms is impressive. The décor is fun and tasteful, yet it appeals to a lot of tastes. I’m so very impressed with the entire space.

What I love about this listing:

The photos of this property are sensational! The photos do a terrific job of showing me everything I need to know about the property. They are well staged, well lit, high quality, and very appealing. I especially love that the floor plan is included, it’s often hard to get a feel for the layout, and these two diagrams are very helpful.

I really love the description and how it provides details about the cabin and the surrounding area. I like that it emphasizes that it’s a family home, not a run of the mill rental. I can tell by reading the description that the owners are passionate about their vacation home and will ensure that renters have a great stay.

I was pleased to see that the owners took time to fill out their Owner Story in detail. As a traveler, I want to know the people I’m renting from.  The Owner Story provides me with a glimpse into their lives and why they love this house.

Finally, I love the reviews. It’s refreshing reading the thoughts of other travelers about how great this place is and how wonderful the owners are.

What could be improved:

There is nothing I would change about this listing. It has everything I want to see in a listing and more. Outstanding job!
