Based on your post, I ran a search on my physical address in google, and it brought up my listing on HomeAway.com in the first page of results.
I ran a search for my second property in google and the HomeAway.com listing page showed up in the second page of results.
Given that one of the primary benefits we market for our properties is their privacy, and that we never reveal the address to anyone except registered guests just shortly before their arrival, and actively work to keep the addresses OFF the internet and not associated with our own personal names or vacation rentals in order to protect and enhance that privacy, this is MOST distressing.
This is not an 'outside agency' sort of thing. It is HomeAway.
It's been 3 months since Homeaway told me they would take our private addresses off search engine results for partners but this has not happened.
When I google my address or another homeaway private address
they appear in headlines for Trivago, Orbitz, Travelocity etc. As floridarob says above this compromises security and privacy.
Please provide update.
Ran a test again tonight. Property 1 VRBO listing showed up on 2nd page of Google. Property 2 HomeAway listing showed up on 1st page of Google.
Obviously the address is contained within the unseen header info of each page, kind of like the keywords you would add to a web page to help search engines know what it is about.
Can we get a response on this please?
Mine shows up in Trivago. probably the reason they include the address in the data is in order to give the distance to the town center and make it map-searchable. Not sure how they could do that differently.
Someone would need to know your address first before doing this, it's true, but it does mean that the data is stored in the listing and can be accessed by someone who knows how.
