treeguy Oct 11, 2018 11:59 AM (in response to planthealth)I provide one for every toilet. The brushes are inexpensive and are used.

u0999 Oct 11, 2018 12:05 PM (in response to planthealth)It's like $3 at a dollar store, why not? Just throw one away every month.

Re: Toilet Brush for every Toilet in small condo?
sapphiresteve Oct 11, 2018 12:09 PM (in response to planthealth)I agree, you should have a brush and plunger in every bathroom. No problem using "throw-aways". At some point you should explain to your guests that some things in the condo are compromised because of the highly destructive environment.

Re: Toilet Brush for every Toilet in small condo?
sapphiresteve Oct 11, 2018 12:21 PM (in response to hill5185)If you are concerned about the "ick factor" the best thing to do (when possible) is to store them in a vanity under the sink*. Second best thing is items that come with a cover, as illustrated above.
*If necessary, shorten the handles.

Re: Toilet Brush for every Toilet in small condo?
hill5185 Oct 11, 2018 12:27 PM (in response to sapphiresteve)Won't help! then the vanity is contaminated with ick - sorry OCD about these things - I agree and store the plunger in a closet just outside the bathroom.
I don't understand why the cleaners refuse to detail clean the items. Put some gloves on and clean - they don't actually have to touch the nasty "ick" end of the items if they fill a toilet bowl with some bleach. The disposable wand cleaner system is the best invention in modern times.

sapphiresteve Oct 11, 2018 1:22 PM (in response to hill5185)" I agree and store the plunger in a closet just outside the bathroom."
Then you contaminate the closet just outside the bathroom!
MY opinion is that there is far more of an "ick factor" involved than a real infection control concern. If the water is a flushed toilet bowl were really highly contaminated, there would be dead dogs all over the place..

Re: Toilet Brush for every Toilet in small condo?
hill5185 Oct 11, 2018 1:29 PM (in response to sapphiresteve)The great debate - maybe invent disposable plungers
Read earlier today there are more infectious contaminants on soda cans than a toilet bowl, bathroom sink - so all in all "ick" is everywhere. I am OCD but not really a germ a phob.
However I do attempt to eliminate the "ick" factor anytime I'm dealing with guests - personally or in our VR.

After which they would have to be disposed of in a non-contaminating manner.
Unfortunately, disposable items are very bad for our planet.

Re: Toilet Brush for every Toilet in small condo?
ohst8er Oct 11, 2018 1:47 PM (in response to hill5185)My husband insists we buy these, and I do (it's called picking your battles). But I don't like them particularly. They are basically one use items, which means more garbage ( so I reuse them, which sort of defeats their initial purpose).
My concern with using them in a rental is this... I'm wondering if someone decides that since they have that handy push button release, is someone going to think they can just push that button, let them fall into the toilet, and that they are flushable?
I am with others that say, spend the money and have a reusable brush by every toilet. Because a) if the brush is there it might actually get USED, and b) if the brush is not there, will they carry it, wet and dripping, from one bathroom to another...?

twobitrentals Oct 11, 2018 1:37 PM (in response to planthealth)I Do not keep toilet brushes or plunger in the the bathrooms they are kept in a bucket in the garage where the cleaning lady gets it/them. I don’t want a drippy brush or plunger dripping all over. That is icky to me

You bring up an extremely important point" the difference between intact and non-intact skin.
Because very few microorganisms can penetrate intact skin things that contact intact skin are non-critical. Non-intact skin is "semi-critical" and things that contact non-intact skin are of greater concern.

Re: Toilet Brush for every Toilet in small condo?
planthealth Oct 11, 2018 1:51 PM (in response to planthealth)Someone did mention that they pour scented pine sol into each brush holder. It helps keep the holder clean and gives the bathroom a clean scent. It also makes for ready made scrubbing by guests!
I'm glad their is a split of opinion on the topic, we were going back and forth on the issue and I value this forum's thoughts!

Re: Toilet Brush for every Toilet in small condo?
ohst8er Oct 11, 2018 1:54 PM (in response to planthealth)planthealth, do you think we will get to the bottom of this?
It seems like sort of a messy, sticky subject.
Should we choose option #1, or option #2?
Hopefully we can flush out the answer.
(stop me if you've heard enough....)

Re: Toilet Brush for every Toilet in small condo?
feibus Oct 11, 2018 1:57 PM (in response to planthealth)Plunger, probably. Brush, meh. A brush is for the cleaners to use, not necessarily the guests. The plunger is what you hope the guest will use instead of calling your managers (or you) to come bring out a plumber.

Re: Toilet Brush for every Toilet in small condo?
ohst8er Oct 11, 2018 1:58 PM (in response to feibus)Our plumber told us once, "you'd be surprised how many people do not know how to use a plunger!"

feibus Oct 11, 2018 2:09 PM (in response to ohst8er)I wouldn't be, not at all. Just like I wouldn't be surprised at how many people don't know how to use a toilet brush.
(yeah, ok, no one needed that visual)

Re: Toilet Brush for every Toilet in small condo?
floridarob Oct 11, 2018 5:05 PM (in response to planthealth)Have a brush at every bathroom. The 'hidden' truth is that many people have sometimes explosive bowel movements, and their is no way a toilet can flush it all off the sides, especially the newer low-flush conservation types. People want to be able to discretely and 'handily' clean up such a mess, and you should make it easy for them to do it. It is just about impossible to imagine any toilet without enough room for a toilet brush beside it. To not put one out is to do your guests a disservice, IMHO. The 'ick' factor of the brush being out is far less than ALL of the other alternatives.

Re: Toilet Brush for every Toilet in small condo?
planthealth Oct 11, 2018 5:34 PM (in response to floridarob)Actually, that was my concern/thought. That a guest there for a week would probably not use UNLESS in this situation. And while bedroom #2 is USUALLY occupied by kids, it could be by a mother in law etc.
Ok. I guess we will keep with the one per toilet......

Re: Toilet Brush for every Toilet in small condo?
margaret Oct 13, 2018 8:27 AM (in response to planthealth)Keep a toilet brush in each bathroom. I also get that rust from being near the beach on the toilet brush. I buy multiple brushes at the dollar store and the housekeeper replaces the bush when is shows signs of rust. I also add a little disinfectant to the toilet brush holder after each use.

Re: Toilet Brush for every Toilet in small condo?
thaxterlane Oct 13, 2018 8:32 AM (in response to planthealth)Yes, if you want a cleaning item to be used, place it where it is convenient for the guest. (And, it's unlikely you want a dripping toilet brush carried from one bathroom to another . . . ). Also stock cleaning supplies to assist the guest in adhering to your house rules (i.e., a guest can't clean up a spill without a supply of paper towels . . . ). I purchase quality toilet bowl brushes (brush in an attractive base) in a polished chrome finish to match the bathroom and somewhat disguise the ugliness of the item.
