OK, I guess I might as well start pushing on FB a little, see if I can get it going. My fan page 'liked' your fan pages. Is that what we are supposed to do? Let me know if I missed anybody.

Fantastic! Now you are up and running on facebook!
Yes, Kiawah Paul, I gave your page a "like," too. Hope you get up to 25 soon.
Me too i liked your page.
What does the 8 check ins mean on FB?
Hi Kiawa, I notice that your landing tab is the Notes tab. Is that the way you want it? You can change the tab people land on when accessing your page if you like. Most people use the Wall or Info tab but its up to you. If you want to change, select Edit Page, then Manage permissions and there is a drop down selection for Default Landing Tab.
I think the checkins are either facebook places or foursquare checkins but there does not seem to be a way to tell who they were. I guess their friends that 'follow' them can see where they are.
Thanks, I was not aware about the landing page thing. I don't know how it got set to notes. I changed it to the wall.
Hi gmajay,
Thanks for liking my FB page

As to the question you asked...
To get a "travel/leisure" designation associated with your page go to your page, edit page, basic information, Category - Companies and Organiztions - Travel/Leisure.
Take care,

This has really been a kick start to me. Already I'm seeing more activity on my page-more likes (from you guys!) and more general interest. Thanks!

I will definitely keep this in mind!!! Thank you so much and have a great
evening.
This is a very helpful thread regarding Facebook pages. I set a page up for our lake home at: www.facebook.com/the-tranquility-zone (hope this link works here).
Please like the page; I am happy to reciprocate!
How have you been able to get your guests to "like" and comment on the page?
I'm hoping it's less threatening than "friending" me personally.
Also... how frequently should the content be updated? I don't want folks to "hide" the page due to sending info too frequently.
We just started renting our lake home this June, after owning it for 7 years. It's been a great experience so far.

Hi Marina,
Solving the Facebook puzzle is a pretty complex answer and for everyone it's a little different depending on how much time (and possibly ad money) you want to spend. From what I've learned--and I am a greenhorn on FB marketing--you want to maintain your content on a regular basis. For some, that's daily. For others, it's every day or two. Like you, I don't want to wear out my FB welcome either, so I keep it to every other day or so.
Vary your content so it's not all the same thing day after day. And never, ever sound like you're selling something. It's okay to let your FB community know you have a last minute special or that you're offering a FB-only deal, but keep it to just now and then. Ask questions. Post clever quotes. Use polls to generate responses. Let them know about half price pizza night at a nearby restaurant or off season deals at an amusement park. I also post Groupon offers that travelers might want to take advantage of for there next trip. Post beautiful photos of the area--those usually elicit a response or two. Share videos from local TV stations about interesting news stories (keep the content positive). Give them links to things like traffic construction info, Gas Buddy, local web cams, your favorite restaurant. Ask your past guests to like your page and post a photo from their most recent visit. Post a "guest review of the week" and make sure to thank your guest, too. When you hit a milestone of 50, 100, 150 likes, etc...post a thank you to the person who was the one that put you over the top.
The key is to build a base of FB likes who you can start to interact with...and vice versa. Don't be frustrated that with 143 likes, no one seems to respond to your posts. Just keep posting good content that encourages them to respond--that's the key. And always reply to people--you may just get a good comment thread going.
BTW, I tried to visit your FB page using the link you provided, but it goes to a massage therapy place in Scotland. Oops!
Amy
Amy, that is a great list of potential FB content. We struggle to keep the content updated on a regular basis. We did use a poll to select our latest "toy" purchase for the cabin.
