A recent study indicated that 56% of business customers use mobile technology to search/book hotels, "indicating a rapid increase in the use of mobile technology in the business travel sector".
It doesn't mean that you should create an iPhone / Android app for your business (if you have the budget, go ahead) but at least optimize your website. If vacation rentals want to compete with hotels they surely need to stay ahead by allowing their customers to effectively browse their properties and make a reservation.
Sure a lot of vacation rental businesses need first to improve (or create!) their current website. But to make a website mobile-friendly is such a small investment, so why not make it?
I agree with this. Our reservation application is able to let renters click on a
URL in the inquiry reply email and make a reservation all from their iphone. Our
clients love that we strive to keep up with technology!

So is a VR owner able to "screen" reservation requests that are made and paid for online? While I like the idea of not having to respond to every inquiry, I would not be comfortable with a process that wouldn't allow me to turn down a request from a potential renter that is not appropriate for our home, as I do get a few of those.
Yes, I hear that some owners like to do some discovery first with their prospects before renting to them. Our system allows you to respond automatically without the ability to pay if you choose. You can then agree to rent, then process the payment.
Google released a new mobile tool yesterday. It is a good start. Also, here is a bunch of useful stats about mobile specific to vacation rentals and the travel industry
+1, need mobile friendly interface!
Vacation seekers are spending more and more time on their phone looking for destinations. Everyone should make sure their personal website is mobile-friendly and maintains the quality shown online from a PC. Any questions on how this can be done please feel free to contact me here.
