Why in the world was this discussion locked????? It says to me that no matter what we had to say they are not going to change this! We all got a slap on the hand and then we were told we couldn't talk about it anymore with no explanation at all.
Meredith: Currently, it is 7:00 a.m. in my location and I'm needing another cup of coffee, I admit.
Please help to clarify this, again: did I misunderstand again...... is the "jive" thingy causing this mixed up language feed going to be a permanent glitch? Again, I'm still only seeing one language (English)....so I'm just asking if I should expect "jive" to mix up my feed as well, at some point. Or, are the programmers trying to fix it?
Anja,
I see three flags to select from: English (my preference), United Kingdom and France. I wonder why you only have the English. Therein could lie the solution to the problem. I also wonder why they locked the discussion.
It doesn't matter that the US flag is chosen. All the other languages are still filtering in.
Hi iopbeachhouse,
Yup....I only have the USA flag visible. /But, I can "drop down" the box to see the UNK and FRA flags although the USA is the one that is visible all the time. Because HA is a USA/based company, it was always my impression that the "default" language was (and is) English....therefore it made perfect sense to me that the Community Forum's default "working language" was English...makes sense, right? Here's the thing: I never once clicked on the other flags...ever! I just didn't. So, did you guys click on them? I'm just wondering if, by clicking on the flags, the "system" registered you guys for both languages, i.e. E and F. ????? No other members here, so far, have revealed that they see more than one language {anybody else, chime in please...maybe French speaking members are getting English posts mixed in, for example}...so I'm wondering why you three are having the problem when I am not. Did you unintentionally register for F language when you "clicked" on the F flag....by chance...?....then that's a system fault. I'm just stymied.
Nope, I never clicked on anything in the flag area. Only noticed there was a flag there when I tried to figure out why French was on my discussion board. It did happen after the site made me log in. Maybe you haven't had to log in for awhile. I might try logging out and back in and see what happens.
Kathy
I never clicked on the flag either, I didn't notice the flag until someone pointed it out, well after the French language discussions started appearing. At first I thought it was a fluke, as the days passed I thought the site was having some difficulties, and then Sophie posted and the resulting conversation suggested a few of us have a real problem.
I've tried logging in and out multiple times and clicking on the US flag.
The French discussions keep on coming.
It's extremely frustrating.
Hi all,
As I mentioned in the Ambassador group and the locked discussion, this is something that automatically happens on the Jive platform and will require a developer "work-around" to fix it. We dont know the man-hours it will take currently, but we hope to be able to filter the languages. As Ambassadors I hope you can all be patient as we solve the problems that arise from making this a global community. Please private message me if you have more concerns about this subject.
All best,
Meredith
Hi meredith,
Thank you for this response which answered my concern and question. [I just asked....wanted to know if it was a "glitch" that would be corrected --- I don't personally have the problem.] From what was described by the others, it seems to be a pretty debilitating "feature" for the Community.....I hope for their sake it won't take the HA IT people very long to fix this.
Sigh, French discussions have reappeared when I logged in this morning.
I hope homeaway intends to fix this; it is a problem, as discussed in the locked discussion that precedes this thread.
It will be impossible to navigate the forum, find discussions in a particular langauge easily, and communicate effectively with other users.
It will make an effective and informative forum into a sluggish, confusing, and difficult forum.
I expect many users will withdraw when faced with such chaos.
And, of less importance, but of interest to me, why is this happening to some users and not others?
I'm up to half my discussions appearing in French.
I wanted to respond to an English language discussion I saw earlier, but it is off the latest forum listing and will require some hunting around to locate.
Instead, I have five French discussions in which I can't participate.
I think that most people who are on the forums don't activate their "feeds and updates". Maybe I'm mistaken, but that's my impression. If they aren't viewing the posts in a feed, the other languages won't show up.
I clicked over to the french site and I did see the english posts intermingled with theirs.
Merci beaucoup! Thank you Meredith. The fix is very much appreciated.
I don't see any of those headings on my page - no friends, no everyone, no mentions and no country. How do I show those?
Meredith,
My feed is still showing tons of french conversations and I have the US flag selected. Today is 8/9/2012 at 9:43am

I agree, mine is too this morning.
Its not the flag icon at the top of the screen, its in Your View (see my screenshot.)
Also clear your cache before trying it.
Let me know if you have further problems
I don't get the same screen you are showing in your screen shot. I don't get an "update status" box etc. so we are not on the same page?
I click "Forums" at the top of the page and then I can scroll down and see a recent posts widget on the left.
Can you please provide detailed instructions on how to correct the problem of removing the french feeds.
Thanks,
Rick

I posted yesterday that I am having the same problem. I don't have those
options and can't find them.
Kathy
Hi Meredith,
So it's not a fix then.
I clicked "owner", found the "Your View" tab and made sure I selected United States.
I then clicked Forums again like I usually do, scrolled down and my recent posts widget shows the french posts.

When I go to "Your View", I don't have those same options at the top of the
screen. I have personalized my view in the past and those options are not
there.
Kathy
Got it to work. I had to go to Your View and then Personalize. Then to a pull down menu beside Community Discussions and selected Edit. Once I did that, the options showed up and I was able to change them.
Kathy
I DO see the drop down with the countries and I have cleared my cache. Even if I click on French, it comes up with all of them still.
Ok, I just checked again and it's working for me. When I click on France, only French feeds come up and when I click on USA, only English.
