Easy to use DVD or DVR?

I  need to buy a new DVD, Blu-Ray or DVR for our condo in Hawaii. Any ideas about brand or easy to use  features? Some can be so complicated for guests to use.

    I just buy the $39 DVD players at Walmart. Their quality is much better than it used to be for DVD players. They are really small and if a guest abuses them, they are inexpensive to replace. I don't have a BluRay because the discs are so expensive!
