Just painfully slow to edit...especially on weekends? Try to search your property like a prospective guest might, we have to be losing dozens of inquiries because who would wait (sometimes more than a minute per page). In 7 years, HA has been the most successful rental site for my 2 properties - started originally way back with my fav - VacationRentals.com. After HA bought VacRentals.com, the site fell off the radar abd I wave since let 1 property renewal lapse and will let the 2nd lapse as well. I will most likey let my HA accounts expire as well. Even though they get me the most bookings, I think their site should be faster than 'dial-up'. I will have to do my homework, I use 3 other pay rental sites as well plus Google's Adwords. Sorry for the honesty, but the HA site has been slow for years now - I even called them once, the potential is there. I use the 3 top browsers and have the fatest cable Internet. Cudos to HA for this forum...I wish them all the best so I can do all my best. Regards, Jim
Hi Jim, do you mind telling me what sites you use. HA used to get me the
most inquiries but now, not many at all. I hate that maybe the site function
is the problem. This has been an off year from last year so any marketing
opportunities are great. Thanks.
Best Regards,
Cindy Britt Hosford

Hi Cindy, We use, or used, vacationrentals.com even before HA took them over - they were tops...now it's like someone flipped the 'off' switch? We use vacationrentals411.com - zero results, valuevacations rentals.com - little to no resilts - not worth the fee, flipkey.com (a partner of tripadvisor.com - little results, but worth the fee. We've also tried Google search placement which we found costly and not effective. We are fortunate that our condo complex has a free listing website and does fair. Although so slow and behind in tech, we find HA has had the best results. Do you find it slow? Have you searched your own place on HA as a possible renter would?
We did terrible in 09, better, but not great in 10, and very decent this year. As the economy gets bad or good, so do our 2 condos.
Thanks for the email, nice talking to you,
Jim

My best is vrbo. We only use those below. Did use findrentals.com - not
good.

Thanks, Maybe we'll give vrbo a shot but worried, because they're owned by HA, may be as slow. We haven't used findrentals.com.
Knowing your competition and competitive pricing is my best advice.
Good luck,
Jim
Hi everyone,
I branched this discussion and changed the thread title to "What is Your Most Successful Listing Site," since the group moved from talking about HomeAway and VRBO calendars, to discussing what listing site has produced the most positive results for your business.
To return to the conversation about online calendars, please click here.
Thanks!

Over 3 minutes loading time for 1 salendar update? I almost gave up, I am sure if I were searching for a rental I would have moved on. Weekends on the HA site are the oworst (slowest loading) - I'm sorry but it's been a very long term issue. I ask other owners and HA staff to do a search for their own, or a random, property from the HA homepage. I would like to stay with HA but know potential inquiers will not wait for page after page. Jim
i'm having trouble updating my calendar! the place where i would input a reservation looks really weird. i will have to see how long it takes to load the calendar. our renters will not want to wait for it to load, either. we just added a listing on tripadvisor.com and have had good success so far with it. they just started adding vacation rentals to their hotel listings, etc. we've been with VRBO and homeaway (all the companies they have bought) for years now but i'd really like to simplify since we get most of our business from vrbo and tripadvisor.
Are flipkey.com and tripadvisor.com 2 different rental sites?
July 3: 30 seconds to load after clicking 'calendar'. another 30 seconds to load calendar update. 1 minute to load 1 update for 1 peoperty. 2, 3, 4 updates for multiple properties? Most other sites update instantly.
1 minute 30 seconds to find my city's rentals from HA homepage - not terrible, it's been slower. In todays 'instant gratification' world...how long will a perspective renter wait before moveing on?
Jim
FlipKey is the rental advertising site. TripAdvisor is the "parent company," which is where travelers leave reviews. (Not sure that is exactly right, but they are connected.)
The best is VRBO. Homeaway, next, then Flipkey.
Waste of money is vacationhomerentals.com, Alwaysonvacation.com, and HowtoVacation.com.
My best sites are Home Away, Vacationrentals. Flipkey does provides some inquiry, I am yet to get a booking. Just listed with Vacationhomerentals.
jamaicavilla, I see that last year you posted that you had just listed with Vacationhomerentals.com. They contacted me this morning to try to get me to list with them but I had never even heard of their site. Have you had any success listing with them? - Thanks for any insight.
I did not have any success with them. Got some inquiries but no Booking. It was a waste of money on my part.
jamaicavilla, thank you for your reply.
Inquiries without bookings isn't worth it. (I guess we've all wasted money somewhere, but then we learn from our mistakes.)
Part of what the sales person told me made sense, but I was still hesitant.
I think that I'll avoid Vacationhomerentals.com and stick with HomeAway & VRBO.
Thanks again.
I really hadn't heard of vacationhomerentals.com until this morning. They apparently troll HomeAway for "special offers," and then call to offer advertising on their site. I seems as if they have listings as far back as 2009, but I haven't done much checking. Right now I'm looking for other ownowner's experience with them.
Hey guys,
According to a survey done by the COHR Group, here are the 2011 power rankings for PAID listing sites:
In the same survey, here are the 2011 power rankings for FREE listing sites:
Here is the link to an owner who signed up for all of these sites plus a small handful more and after 6 months of leads, this order is almost dead accurate. She's also based in Aspen (don't know if that means anything in particular).
loscuatrotulipanes, thank you very much for the survey results and the link to the Aspen owner (and, consequently, the link to Matt's Famous Blog http://www.vacationrentalmarketingblog.com/blog/) I read that someone said that free listings do not produce, so I'm not wondering how the free compare with the paid. Good to see that HomeAway & VRBO are at the top!
