Owner, Property Manager, or Traveler
I am a new VRBO member and have been managing my vacation rental on the island of Maui, Hawaii "long distance" myself and unable to visit my property often enough to satisfy my concerns about; quality of guest experience, maintenance or cleaning needs not picked up by my cleaning company, goods and furnishings that may need repair or replacement etc. I am big on preventative maintenance and quality control for optimum cleanliness and guest comfort. I am new to your Community and have a question;
Might there be a need or interest in an experienced construction / property manager "on island", and or through out the islands for that matter, for those Maui VRBO/HomeAway vacation rental owners who wish to manage their vacation rental(s) personally, yet unable to get to their property often enough to feel that they are sustaining their investment? Someone who would provide a status report, make observations and or recommendations, perform repair and maintenance upon request, be "on call" 24/7. This would be a person with the same interests as other VRBO/HomeAway owners, a person who is service oriented and totally trustworthy.

My “On Island…” comment on the HomeAway community page was a start of my feasibility study, looking for long distance VRBO owners/managers that may be interested in such a service. A service, among other things, that first and foremost would focus on and keep the VRBO owner informed as to the condition of their property and the quality of cleaning and staging of the vacation rental. My feasibility study now has a little more meaning since I have just personally experienced two situations with my VRBO property here on Maui that should have been reported to me but wasn’t. My best guess why that did not happen, my agent was a little preoccupied booking units. My VRBO is “A” rated. I want to sustain that “A” rating through a service that feels the same as I do. How does one do that? Offer the service. It could be something so small as say a monthly retainer, in return for a survey/communication with pictures once a month, or a necessary, so as to sustain the value of the VRBO and quality of the island experience for our guests.
This “service” comes from moving to the islands about ten years ago and discovering that there are people in this world who save for a life time just to come to the islands for one week. That experience wants to be respected and be as close to picture post card perfect each and every time for each and every guest.
Would certainly entertain any feedback, a hui ho.

We are based in Hawaii and will be expanding our management services to all the islands over the next couple of years. We typically do comprehensive management services, but would consider customized contracts based on the needs of the individual owners. We also own a vacation rental cleaning company in Hawaii.
There may be some good local options near your property that could help, but if not, let me know and we could discuss options. Our family owns several Hawaii vacation homes and so I know where you are coming from on this. I have staff on Oahu now, but we still need to screen, hire and train staff on Maui, Kauai and the Big Island before offering our services there.
