HI all !
I have 02 house on the southern coast of Sri Lanka. both Properties are beach front locations.
I posted an advertisement on flipkey by paying the annual subscription but I got only 2 reservation (both reservations are for few days )so far (posted the ad 6 months back) . Now I want to post an add on other websites such as homeaway etc but I`m worried whether i`ll end-up in a loss.
This is my website : http://rekawabeachhouse.wordpress.com/
I`m new to this field . please advice whether i should go ahead by advertising on other sites or not.
Thanks in advance..
I would start with sites that offer free listings first, to figure out the effectiveness. Here is a good list of free listing sites
Hello..
Thank you char,truman.. I`ll check the sites you have recommended. I`m sure it will be helpful for me to do more marketing..
I disagree with using free sites. Most have no value at all and will generate NO bookings. And...some are actually scams.
I would definitely go with one of the "biggies" www.homeaway.com or www.vrbo.com. Do a quick search for your property area to get a feel for bookings, pricing etc.
I'm positive you will start to see tons of bookings by listing with either of these!

char,
I'm curious to know why the only thing you post are links to free listings or links to your business?
I would do some searches on vacation rentals in your area and see what comes up. If there are others on Homeaway or Flipkey, see how many there are, if they are comparable to yours etc. I don't know anything about Sri Lanka, but there could be other search engines that are very specific to your area. Once you set up your listing(s), by all means TRACK where your inquiries are coming from. At the latest when they are up for renewal, you will know which ones were worth their money, and which ones to drop. All the best!
@sophie & Mauioceanview : I have read so many discussions and I have realised www.homeaway.com or www.vrbo.com are really popolar for renting out houses in USA and countries closer to that. Also europian countries as well but when you search for hotels in Asian countries ( like how mauioceanview adviced ), on www.homeaway.com SRI LANKA is not even listed and on www.vrbo.com , there is only one property. Even In that property I went through the profile and there was only 4 reviews. 3 reviews on 2010 and one on 2012. It gives a slight hint that the property owner didnt have much reservations through VRBO. Now the question is Trip advisor, it has so many properties from Asian countries. So the Flikey is the best. Is it ?? advice...
Let me share some videos about Sri Lanka for all the viewers : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZsIzOY23VeU&feature=related
Anyone on this forum who is interested on visiting Sri Lanka, do let me know and I`ll give a one day to stay free on my beach house. What matters most is getting to know people all around the world than finding money all the time, so defenitly I can do this.
I feel Flipkey is the best when it comes to marketing asian properties..
This is the information I found when I queried google as to country of origin for visitors to Sri Lanka:
"A large majjoority of tourists come from the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Germany, France, Maldives, Japan, China, and India."
I would post your advertisement on websites aimed at the European and American market to get started.
I agree with forum members that recommend against posting on free web sites; it's unlikely you will receive many inquiries as these sites have far less traffic than the large, paying sites such as Homeawy, VRBO, and Flipkey.
Best of luck to you!
You should try listing your properties on free of charge sites. If it gets you bookings - it's great and if not you don't lose anything. It is a win win situation
