Hello all!
I am not here to sell you a THING. This I promise you.
I am speaking at the HomeAway Summit this year (you can confirm on the agenda). As I finish up my presentation, I wanted to see what questions you all had about marketing yourself and your properties via the search engines and other online areas. I can't promise to answer all questions in my presentation, but I will do my best. And small questions (not the ones that go "can you look at my site?"), if I can answer them fast on here I will do my best.
So shoot. What would you like to know? What are your burning questions?
Kate Morris
what SEO can we do ourselves? I have a Facebook page, I paid for clicks on Facebook, I am on Pinterest. I have someone setting up a blog for me and attached to my website.
I grew up in the horse and buggy generation. I saw the emergence of color tv, cell phones, computers, etc. So SEO is a foreign language to me. I believe that if you embed certain words in the website, and repeat it several times, you move up the ranking????
Do I need to hire a professional SEO person, or can I learn to do this myself EASILY?
Marilyn
I could really use help and some advice on SEO. I built a website: www.gatlinburg-cabin-rental.com, included a blog and was told to try adwords with voucher I got setting up with godaddy.com, but I don't know where to start. My market/area is highly competitive. I don't know exactly what I need to do (or spend) to realistically get my website on page 1 google search, but I know it is where I need to get, so I'm not dependent on these listing sites any longer. Any advice is much appreciated. If you would like to email direct, let me know

Pretty site! What is your most sought after term you want to rank for?
And ranking #1 is not about money, it's about answering queries and getting people to talk about you online. If you can give me your target terms, I'll give you some feedback.
thank you.
hamptons rental or large hamptons family home or hamptons vacation rental
Not sure if this is your question?
Regards
Marilyn
The hamptons is a high competition area as you know. I can tell you have worked on link building but there are a few things I'd do different.
1. Don't have that starter page. When people go to: http://www.hamptonhouseproperties.info take them to http://www.hamptonhouseproperties.info/index.php?option=com_content&view=frontpage but with the smaller URL. The intro page is just not necessary.
2. Your biggest links are from pages that are named "/links.htm". All of them. Example: mtbakerretreat.com/links.php. These links are not helping you much. You need to focus in on links that are inside of content, so people talking about you online. I'll give you some examples in my presentation, but my saying is that if it was easy to get a link it's most likely not worth much.
See you in a few days!
I am not in the hamptons, and I want to be removed from these emails. Do I need to cancel my membership to the community? I am tired of getting these emails over and over again.
just go to the upper part of community and opt out of emails
incred- I think you're getting the emails because you must have posted to THIS particular topic forum line at one time. You then get notification if someone responds to this thread.
You should be able to see on the "content "line of the email & if you don't care to read the email just delete it.

that would be fine, but I am getting like 15 a day. How can I stop this.
I'm so sorry, I didn't realize I was getting these because of previous post lol. Thanks for letting me know, I will opt out – sorry for my stupidity.
Robin
Marilyn,
There are a number of things you can do yourself. A professional SEO is most likely not necessary.
Ignore all that stuff about putting keywords in everything. Write for your users and do good marketing (customer service, ask people to review you, etc.) and I promise the keywords will appear.
Are you coming to the summit? If you are, I'll see you there. If not, I'll visit this discussion after and see about posting my presentation. Lots of good tips in there.
Kate
will be at conference and will follow your talk. Thanks
What do you mean when you say you paid for clicks on Facebook? thanks, Jo
I will be attending the conference and look forward to your presentation. The world of SEO seems confusing and I am trying to learn more about it to drive people to our website. I have during last week spent sometime updating keywords and getting my link on other sites to help my ranking. I also am trying Google Adwords and P2C but so far I have not seen any bookings due to this.
My main points of confusion are actually in regards to how many keywords you should use and how you truly select the correct ones to drive the traffic which is of value. I also have need for more knowledge about the difference and criticalness of meta tags, keywords, title description, use of keywords on text of website etc. I am slowly getting it but it is work to keep on top of it and I am considering paying someone to help me with it. That said the cost is high compared to the volume of business we do but if the impact to the bottom line exceeds the cost....well then I have to seriously consider it.
I look forward to meeting you in Austin.

goweb99 is actually who I am looking at using. I look forward to meeting you in Austin as well. Were you able to stay downtown near conference center? Everything was booked so I ended up 20 minutes away at the Renaissance. My husband use to work at Marriott and we still have friends who do so I got rate for less than those that HomeAway had but it is about 20 minute drive. I cannot wait to go to the conference and learn!
STOP SENDING THESE TO ME. I HAVE GOTTEN 10 from you
Hi Suzy
I booked early and will be staying at the Hilton. You might check them to see if there are any last minute cancellations so that you do not need to drive so far. Perhaps we might meet for a drink. I am arriving on Thursday evening. Let me know your time frame.
I have had lots of luck using Goweb99 for all of my companies.I also have a window shade company and an internet shade company which they handle the SEO for me.

SeoDataService helped me to improve my rankings dramatically. http://SeoDataService.com
I have a site www.jamaicaoceanviewvilla.com. I have had various SEO company carried out SEO but none work. I just fired my SEO guy after 3 months, none or few of the audit reports were done. My ranking dropped significantly.
I am now writing articles, for blogs as well as directory and hiring someone to comment on blogs twice a week.
What else should I be doing.
