We just put our vacation home in Coeur d'Alene, ID on VRBO and VacationRentals and are getting a great response. How do we figure out what the state and local taxes are and any surcharges/ travel and convention taxes/ local city hotel/room taxes, etc are???????
go to hotspot.com
they are affiliated with vrbo and they can tell you what to collect. They then file with the state and collect the taxes from you.
Hi dahlia, i tried to go to that hotspot.com and a blank page appears that only says "It Works!" Doesnt say anything else?????

sorry, the correct address is: hotspottax.com
In Georgia the state department of revenue and county tax commissioner handle state sales tax and county lodging taxes. I would call them. Also ask them what is taxable, i.e. cleaning fees, extra firewood, extra towels - whatever you charge extra for.
We had a real stink in our area last year. All our accountants were under the impression that cleaning was not taxable as it was a separately stated item. The tax code was very, very vague so as the government was facing decreasing tax income they decided to re-interpret the code-making cleaning taxable. They then audited some of us- it was a HUGE mess.
Also, remember-if you purchase supplies over the internet and are not charged taxes, you will have to file that on your sales and use tax and pay a use tax on it. (At least we have to here in Georgia)
Hi there,
Here are a couple of additional resources:
I hope this helps.
