Tyann Marcink Branson, Missouri (HomeAway #167204)
Owner Tyann Marcink says she's photographed the large great room in her Branson, Missouri vacation home dozens of times, experimenting with different lighting, angles, and times of the day, but Tyann says this holiday scene is by far her favorite shot.
Here, in her own words, Tyann Marcink explains what makes this particular photograph special.
The concept: I wanted to highlight our gorgeous Christmas tree and how warm and inviting the great room is. I love how cozy yet spacious this makes our great room look — which is an accurate portrayal.
The angle: I wanted to be as high as possible, since the Christmas tree itself is 9 feet tall (plus the star topper). We have a second level that has an open landing, so I leaned against the wall and over the railing to have as much of the great room as possible in the picture. I love that I was able to get just a bit of the garland, lights, and stockings down the railing on the left side.
The lighting: This was actually taken at night — around midnight or so. I wanted twinkling Christmas lights in the photo and I knew the daylight would wash out the lights, so only nighttime would do. I closed the blinds on the windows so there would be no reflections or interference from outside lights, and I turned on every single light in the room and adjoining rooms. I also turned my flash off so that only the lighting in the house would light the photo.
